All the Bright Places

It’s my favorite book. All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. I’ve only read it once, but that doesn’t matter. The story is what matters, not how many times I’ve read it. My favorite quote is:

“You are all the colors in one, at full brightness.”

It’s probably the most popular quote from the book. If you look up this book on Goodreads, this quote is listed first. Call me basic, but it’s my favorite quote from my favorite book.

I bought this book at The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles. My dad and I used to drive to cities and find stores or areas or restaurants that were popular in that city. We decided to go to Los Angeles and we went to two or three bookstores. The last bookstore we went to that night happened to be The Last Bookstore. I’d seen this place all over Instagram, of course. With its tunnel of books, it’s very popular and trendy in Los Angeles. We got in right before closing. I felt like I was transformed into another world. It was very different from the other two bookstores we had visited. This one had character and it was filled head to toe with books. I rushed to the YA fiction novels and I found this book. I heard about it before, so I wanted to give it a try. I thought the cover was beautiful and the story was intriguing, so I begged my dad to buy it. I was so excited to read it the whole drive home.

The book is about two teenagers who attempt to kill themselves but end up falling in love. Besides the fact that it romanticizes suicide, I find the story interesting and captivating. In the story, the two main characters, Violet and Finch, travel in their state to find the beauty in the little things. They find places they didn’t think existed in their boring town. It taught me to love the little things because sometimes that’s all that’s there. This book also shows people to stay strong. Everyone is hurting, everyone has pain. Everyone is going through something that we don’t know. It’s the little things that make them appreciate the world around them. It’s the little things that make life beautiful.

Give it a read, it won’t hurt. It’s a love story that had me nervous in the beginning, smiling in the middle, and crying at the end. It’s my favorite book. Actually I’m going to read it right now.
